what type of trading do you do and why did you pick it?

Main Post:

i am still in the paper trading stage and was wanting to try options. do you think it is worth it? also what made you do the type of trading you do?

Top Comment: I'm a scalp trader, normally only long positions. I like it because I'm not a patient person and get anxious the longer I hold. Plus I enjoy trading, and it's boring to just sit around waiting for more money to come in. Scalping lets me make more trades. Like today, I made 11 trades in the hour I traded.

Is trading legit? Do people actually make profit consistently for a long time?

Main Post:

Hello everyone,

I’ve been trading for about 2 months now. I started off really excited, I was learning from someone who claimed to be profitable (he even showed me his account history), but recently he’s started losing money consistently and it's made me question a lot.

And, I checked the FTMO leaderboard and saw that the #1 only made a 42% gain. Which is not even close to what I expected from the number-one trader of the biggest prop firm.

I’ve been backtesting and trying to stick to strategies like RSI divergence and simple breakout setups, but it’s not going so well for me either. I’m still trying to improve, but honestly, I’m starting to wonder.

Is trading actually a legit way to make a living? Like, are there really people here who do this full-time and make consistent, serious income, like a real job? And I am talking about years of consistent profitable months, not just a few good months. If so, what strategies do you use that actually work long-term?

Not trying to be negative, just genuinely curious and trying to figure out if this path is actually worth it before I go deeper. Would love to hear from anyone who's been doing this for years or is currently living off trading. Thanks

Top Comment: Yes trading can be legit way to make money. "smart" money(banks, financial institutions, hedge funds) trade with millions, even billions of dollars. Take any asset, like NVDA for example, and look at the volume for that day. Times that by that average price and that's roughly how much money is flowing in and out of just NVDA in 1 day. Today NVDA's volume was around 198 million. The close price was 131.19. So I multiplied 198 million x 130 and that's roughly 60 billions dollars that flowed in and out of NVDA just today. Do you think it's possible to pull $1,000 for $60,000,000 money flow? It's up to you if you want to work for it or not.
